KATHMANDU:

The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) said some materials brought for earthquake victims are of substandard quality.

Issuing a press statement on Thursday, the Department said expiration dates of some food materials were already over whereas some foods were not edible.

The DFTQC has alerted that it has been regularly monitoring and examining quality of foods and drinks supplied to earthquake victims.

The Department has already dumped 1,000 packets of Baishali brand breads, unlabelled 1,000 kg rotis imported from India and 43 carton noodles of KOKA brand of Singapore.

Likewise, the Department has banned on sale and distribution of Metromint brand mineral water produced in Dhanusha and Lapooz brand mango drink produced in Varanasi of India.

Two mineral water companies have been restricted from producing the consumable and summoned to the DFTQC for further action, Department's spokesperson Purna Chandra Wasti said.

The DFTQC has asked members of the public to check expiration date and quality of the food and drinking products before consuming them.
