Private sector seeks role in agro strategy
KATHMANDU:
The private sector has urged the government for a private sector friendly Agriculture Development Strategy (ADS) — the 20-year strategy for agriculture sector development in the country — for the effective implementation of the strategy, which the government is going to bring into implementation from fiscal 2015-16.
The ADS has identified the role of the private sector in four major areas like food and nutrition security, decentralisation of agriculture and agro technology education, value chain development and innovation, and agro entrepreneurship.
“Though ADS has talked about agriculture sector’s transformation with the collaboration
of the private sector, it has not spoken of our actual role,” said Bhawani Rana, chairperson of the Agro Enterprise Centre of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and
Industry (FNCCI).Rana further said that instead of the government, the private sector could play a lead role in the implementation of ADS. She was speaking in a programme titled ‘Role of Private Sector in ADS’ organised here today by Agro Enterprise Centre.
