Nepal has received its highest pre-monsoon rainfall in 45 years, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The country normally receives an average of 226 millimeters of rain during the pre-monsoon season, but this year recorded 339.5 millimeters, said meteorologist Sanjeev Adhikari at the Department.

Anarmani Birta in Jhapa district recorded the highest rainfall in a single day, receiving 208 millimeters in 24 hours, said Information Officer Dinkar Kayastha at the Department. Rainfall has continued in the Jhapa area for several days.

Tej Prakash Prasain, Assistant Chief District Officer of Jhapa, said the recent rain has been concentrated in a few specific areas rather than spread evenly across the district.

Heavy rainfall was also recorded in Ilam, Morang, Sunsari, and Sindhuli, as well as in Kaski, Lamjung, and Gorkha.

The Department has tracked pre-monsoon rainfall since 1981 using data from 126 rainfall measurement stations across the country.
