Police catch fugitive Marasini at Chabahil

The police have arrested Sharbesh Marasini who has been convicted by the Lalitpur District Court of three counts of fraud. The court has slapped a jail term of two years and a fine of Rs5.47 million for committing fraud at Standard Multi-Purpse Cooperative where he was a board director.

Marasini had been on the run since June 4 when the court ordered him to be jailed. Officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation of Police caught him at Chabahil on Monday, the police said in a statement.

According to the police, he was fined Rs5.11 million for the first two cases of fraud and Rs107,747 for the third case.

He was convicted of embezzling Rs46 million by luring people to deposit money at Standard Multi-Purpose Cooperative with the intention of commiting fraud when he was a board member there.

He also submitted falsified documents to the Cooperative Division Office by pasting his brother’s photographs instead of his.

Likewise, he was convicted of embezzling deposits amounting to Rs3.17 million at Kuber Cooperative. The case is under consideration at the Kathamndu District Court.
