The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of parliament has decided to seek clarification from officials of different district attorney offices for their failure to file cases against gold smugglers.
Speaking at the meeting of PAC on Tuesday, Janardan Sharma, chairman of the committee, said clarification will be sought from these officials as gold smuggling is going on unabated because of their inactiveness. “At the time when cases related to gold smuggling are increasing by the day, officials of district attorney offices have been found taking bribe from such smugglers. They are not filing cases against such smugglers,” he added.
Lawmakers like Ram Hari Khatiwada and Dhan Raj Gurung said attorney offices have not filed cases against gold smugglers caught red-handed. “This shows that officials have been bribed,” Khatiwada said.
