NTC Issues Alert Over Rising SMS Phishing Scams Targeting Digital Payment Users
Nepal Telecom has issued a public notice notifying customers about the increasing misuse of SMS services to send fraudulent messages in the names of Connect IPS, banks, and other digital payment service providers. According to the company, these messages often contain suspicious links and may falsely claim that an account has been blocked or require users to verify personal information, with the aim of stealing sensitive data.
Nepal Telecom has urged customers to remain cautious and verify information only through the official websites or mobile applications of the concerned institutions before clicking on any link. The company advised users not to share confidential details such as OTPs, passwords, PINs, or CVV numbers with anyone. It also requested customers to immediately inform the relevant institution if they receive suspicious SMS messages, phone calls, or links. Nepal Telecom stated that customer security remains its top priority and appealed to all users to stay alert against such fraudulent activities.
