NTB to Set Up Information Desk for Tourists Missing and Rescued in Bhotekoshi Flood

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) is set to establish an Information Desk to provide updated information on tourists who have gone missing or have been rescued following the devastating Bhotekoshi flash flood on August 26.

The decision was taken during a joint meeting involving officials from the Nepal Tourism Board, Tourist Police and representatives of various tourism-related organizations. The meeting also called for intensified search and rescue efforts to locate tourists who remain missing following the disaster.

According to Ramkrishna Lamichhane, Director General of the Department of Tourism, the Information Desk will serve as a central point for sharing and coordinating information related to missing and rescued tourists.

He said the decision was made to strengthen coordination among the concerned agencies involved in the search and rescue operation and to establish an integrated information system through the desk.

The system is expected to help government agencies and tourism stakeholders maintain updated records of rescued tourists, those still missing, and other relevant information emerging from the affected areas.

The meeting emphasized the need to further expedite search and rescue operations for tourists who remain unaccounted for after the flood.

The Information Desk will facilitate information flow among the concerned authorities and tourism organizations, while also providing reliable updates on the status of affected tourists.

The Bhotekoshi flash flood of August 26 caused significant damage in the affected areas and disrupted travel routes, leaving several domestic and foreign travellers stranded or unaccounted for.

The establishment of the desk is expected to bring together information from different agencies under a coordinated mechanism, making it easier to track the status of missing and rescued tourists and support ongoing search and rescue efforts.
