KATHMANDU, Feb 24:

Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has directed United Telecom Limited (UTL) to resume its services within 24 hours.

UTL phones across the country have gone offline since Friday morning.

Achyutananda Mishra, assistant spokesperson of NTA, said that they have written to UTL management, directing it to resume service within 24 hours. “If UTL fails to resume its service within the given timeframe, it will have to face legal action,” added Mishra.

UTL officials told Republica that its system has gone down due to power failure in the instrument room resulting to total service disruption. The problem is not a serious one and can be resolved immediately. But agitating employees of the have not allowed engineers to enter the instrument room.

UTL Chapter of All Nepal Organization of Bank and Financial Workers Union is on strike against the management since July 3, putting forward 14-point demand.

Earlier in January, around 80 percent of UTL subscribers were denied for around a week.

UTL has around 500,000 subscribers.
