NOC Assures Adequate Cooking Gas Supply, Urges Against Hoarding
The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has clarified that there is no shortage of cooking gas in the market, stating that the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) remains sufficient to meet current demand.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the state-owned enterprise responsible for importing and distributing petroleum products instructed gas industries to ensure a smooth and regular supply of LPG cylinders to normalize the market.
According to NOC, gas-related industries imported 47,304 metric tonnes of LPG from the Indian Oil Corporation in January this year. Previously, 47,264 metric tonnes were imported in November 2025, followed by 48,531 metric tonnes in December 2025. The Corporation said these volumes are adequate to meet winter demand across the country.
NOC Spokesperson Manoj Kumar Thakur said that minor supply disruptions have been reported by a few gas industries. He added that the concerned industries have been directed to promptly facilitate the distribution of LPG cylinders to address the situation.
Considering the current market conditions and the upcoming March 5 election, Thakur further informed that NOC has placed a requisition for an additional 2,000 metric tonnes of LPG under the regular quota for this month.
The Corporation has urged consumers to purchase gas cylinders only as per their immediate needs and avoid unnecessary stockpiling, emphasizing that hoarding could disrupt the supply chain.
