The latest constitution promulgated by the Constituent Assembly (CA) on September 20 comes without a date following its title, unlike the previous six constitutions drafted to date.
This has come as a surprise to many, with most of the people including media persons just writing down the year 2072. However, the new constitution is only called Constitution of Nepal.
Responding to a query over the same, then CA Chairman and Speaker Subas Nembang said the year Bikram Sambat or Bikram Era as the previous constitutions was not include in the new constitution so that is becomes inclusive as various ethnic and linguist groups in diverse Nepal follow different Era.
An agreement to not put the Bikram Sambat had been agreed in the first CA, which was followed, he said. The Preliminary of the Constitution however includes the day it was promulgated as 3 Asoj 2072.
The brief title of the constitution mentioned in Part 307 was says that the new constitution shall be called Constitution of Nepal, with the date of its commencement.
The titles of all the constitutions promulgated so far had a Bikram Year to follow including the latest as the Interim Constitution of Nepal, 2063 (2007). RSS
