The Nepal Tourism Board has expressed serious concern over misleading and factually incorrect reports claiming that the Government of Nepal has imposed new restrictions on Indian tourists.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Board clarified that several media outlets and online platforms had circulated false information stating that mandatory identity cards were required for Indian tourists entering Nepal, that their stay was limited to 30 days, and that vehicles would be confiscated for overstaying. The Board strongly rejected these claims as baseless and misleading.
The statement further emphasized that the Government of Nepal has not introduced any new restrictions on the duration of stay for Indian tourists. It also noted that there has been no change in the long-standing open border arrangement and bilateral understanding between Nepal and India. The Board highlighted the continued cultural closeness, historical ties, and strong tourism cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Board, the government has recently introduced an online facilitation system for Indian and other foreign tourists entering Nepal via land routes using private vehicles. Developed by the Customs Department, the digital system allows temporary entry permits and payment of applicable fees through an online platform, aiming to simplify border procedures and reduce inconvenience for travelers.
The Nepal Tourism Board has urged media outlets, digital platforms, tourism stakeholders, and the general public to avoid spreading unverified information and to rely only on official government sources for accurate travel and policy-related updates.
Reiterating that Nepal remains a safe, friendly, and welcoming destination for tourists from India and around the world, the Board stated that the government remains committed to promoting friendship, cooperation, and smooth cross-border mobility between Nepal and India.
