Sharad Ojha, Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority, has been suspended just four months into his appointment, following allegations of submitting forged documents related to professional experience.
The government formed a three-member judicial probe committee, chaired by former High Court judge Krishna Giri, to investigate the validity of Ojha’s credentials. With the formation of this committee, Ojha is automatically suspended, as per provisions under the Insurance Act.
Ojha was appointed on Falgun 12, 2081, but controversy quickly surrounded his appointment, with questions raised over the authenticity of the work experience he presented—experience that reportedly does not align with legal requirements for the role.
Sources indicate that prior calls for his voluntary resignation were ignored, prompting the government to proceed with a formal investigation. The committee has been given up to three months to conclude its inquiry. If found guilty, Ojha faces potential dismissal based on the committee’s recommendation.
