Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal returned to Nepal on Wednesday evening after successfully concluding a four-day official visit to China, where high-level discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and regional collaboration.

Minister Khanal visited China from June 14 to 17 at the invitation of Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and China’s Foreign Minister.

During the visit, Khanal held formal bilateral talks with Wang Yi in Beijing on June 15, where both sides reviewed the overall state of Nepal-China relations and expressed commitment to further enhancing cooperation based on mutual trust, friendship, and shared interests.

According to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties while Nepal reiterated its firm adherence to the One-China Policy, assuring that Nepali territory would not be allowed to be used against China’s core interests.

In response, the Chinese government reiterated continued support for Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence, while backing Nepal’s priorities related to economic development, governance reforms, and national development goals.

The bilateral discussions also covered expanding cooperation in major sectors including infrastructure development, cross-border connectivity, trade, investment, energy, agriculture, tourism, technology transfer, digital transformation, petroleum supply, fertilizer management, and natural gas exploration.

Both countries also stressed the importance of accelerating implementation of previously agreed bilateral projects while enhancing cooperation in regional and multilateral forums.

Apart from ministerial talks, Khanal met senior Chinese leaders including Liu Haixing and Wang Huning, where discussions centered on expanding political engagement and identifying new areas of strategic cooperation between the two countries.

During the visit, the Foreign Minister also attended an investment conference organized by the Nepali Embassy in Beijing aimed at attracting greater Chinese investment into Nepal. Addressing Chinese business leaders and investors, Khanal urged them to explore Nepal’s growing economic potential and contribute to shared prosperity.

Highlighting Nepal’s favorable investment climate and demographic advantages, he assured investors that the government remains committed to creating a business-friendly environment for foreign enterprises.

The Minister further interacted with members of the Nepali diaspora in China, encouraging them to support Nepal’s development agenda and nation-building efforts while also directing embassy officials to prioritize economic diplomacy and strengthen service delivery for Nepali citizens abroad.

As part of the cultural and diplomatic engagements, Khanal visited the historic White Stupa at Miaoying Temple, a landmark designed by legendary Nepali architect Araniko, symbolizing centuries-old cultural relations between Nepal and China.

He also toured the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research and visited Zhongguancun Science Park, China’s leading national innovation and technology hub.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the visit proved highly productive, significantly contributing to deeper Nepal-China friendship, stronger diplomatic engagement, and Nepal’s broader goal of promoting independent, practical, and development-oriented foreign relations with the international community.

Officials from Nepal’s Foreign Ministry and the Nepali Embassy in Beijing accompanied Minister Khanal during the visit.
