Nepal Achieves Self-Reliance in Footwear Production, Exports 30 Million Pairs Annually

Nepal has become self-reliant in footwear production, exporting 30 million pairs of shoes annually, according to the Footwear Manufacturers' Association of Nepal.

Issuing a press statement, the Association’s General Secretary, Nirmal Bhattarai, said that Nepali footwear industries have the capacity to produce 160 million pairs a year, with 70 percent of domestic demand already met by local products.

The Association highlighted its significant role in economic development, employment generation, and foreign exchange earnings through exports. Bhattarai emphasized that the development, protection, and promotion of Nepali footwear industries remain a key priority at present.

Additionally, the Association announced that its Chairman, Suraj Banjade, has been proposed as a candidate for the working committee of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in the upcoming elections.
