KATHMANDU, Sept 1:

After an interval of almost a decade, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has resumed scheduled flights to Bangalore.

Similarly, the national flag carrier is resuming flights to Mumbai from Friday.

"With the expansion of fleet, we are resuming our flights to two Indian cities -- Bangalore and Mumbai," Ram Hari Sharma, spokesperson of NAC, said. "We are hopeful that resumption of flights to two new Indian cities will help to increase our market share."

NAC had stopped flying to Mumbai in 2005 and Bangalore in 2006.

NAC's inaugural flight to Bangalore had 88 passengers on board. Similarly, there were 38 passengers in the return flight.

Sharma said NAC will fly two times a week to both the cities. NAC will fly to Mumbai on Mondays and Fridays, while flights to Bangalore will be operated on Tuesdays and Saturdays. NAC has also said that it would increase flight frequency to both the destinations to three times a week very soon.

One-way fare to both the destinations from Kathmandu has been fixed at Rs 10,092, while two-way fare to Bangalore and Mumbai from Kathmandu has been set at Rs 20,893 and Rs 21,067, respectively.

NAC has fixed one-way fare to both the destinations at Rs 4,000 exclusive of taxes. When tax is added, one-way fare costs Rs 10,092.

NAC had resumed flight to New Delhi from February. It has unveiled plan to start scheduled flights to new destinations like Dubai (UAE) and Guangzhou (China).
