Karnali Corridor Reopens for One-Way Traffic After Landslides

The Karnali Corridor, which was obstructed due to landslides triggered by continuous heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday, has been reopened for one-way traffic from Wednesday morning.

According to local authorities, persistent rainfall caused multiple landslides across several sections of the corridor, particularly in the Kalikot stretch, leading to a complete disruption of vehicular movement. The road section between Khulalu village in Naraharinath Rural Municipality-8 of Kalikot and Laiphu in Bajura district was among the worst affected.

The District Administration Office, Kalikot, confirmed that the Surkhet–Humla road section connecting Khulalu and Laiphu has now been cleared, allowing limited vehicular movement to resume.

However, Assistant Chief District Officer and Information Officer Janak Sharma has urged travelers to exercise caution, warning that the risk of falling rocks from steep slopes above the roadway remains high despite the reopening.

Authorities have advised commuters to remain vigilant as cleanup and stabilization work continues along the affected sections of the corridor.
