KATHMANDU:
The Japanese government will hand over the Banepa-Bardibas Highway, also known as the BP Highway, to the Nepal government in May.
Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Masashi Ogawa shared this information with Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat during a meeting held at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) today.
“The construction of the road is over and we will hand it to the government in May,” the ambassador was quoted as saying in a press statement issued today by the Ministry of Finance.
The construction of the 160-km road, which links Kathmandu with eastern Terai, began in fiscal year 1996-97, says the statement.
The road was built at a cost of around Rs 22 billion in grant assistance extended by the Japanese government.
