IZML Recovers Millions in Overdue Rent Following Power Cuts
The Industrial Zone Management Limited (IZML) has recovered nearly 425.4 million Nepalese Rupees (NPR 42.54 crore) in outstanding rent from local businesses within just two weeks. This major recovery comes after strict directives from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies to crack down on defaulting companies, with some rental debts dating back to 1988.
Following a public notice issued to roughly 635 industries and offices, the majority stepped forward to clear their accounts. To enforce compliance, the ministry ordered electricity to be disconnected for non-paying businesses. Over 200 factories and offices initially faced power cuts; while most rushed to clear their balances to restore power, 45 companies remain without electricity for failing to pay. IZML leadership credited the successful campaign to strong ministerial support, which allowed the agency to bypass external pressures and enforce the rules effectively.
