The government has announced the results of the first fortnightly bumper draw under the Taxpayer Incentive Reward Scheme, with one consumer winning the grand prize of Rs. 10 lakhs for making a purchase worth just Rs. 250.

The winning purchase was made at Shiva Krishna General Store, and the grand prize-winning coupon number is 007 315 254 493.

In addition to the bumper prize, 15 consumers were selected to receive Rs. 100,000 each under the fortnightly draw.

The winners were announced today during a program organized by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) at the Ministry of Finance.

The Taxpayer Incentive Reward Scheme was introduced to encourage consumers to request invoices for their purchases and strengthen tax compliance across the country.

The initiative was announced in the Fiscal Year 2083/84 budget by Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle to expand the tax base and foster a culture of obtaining bills for goods and services.

Under the scheme, a fortnightly draw awards Rs. 100,000 each to 15 consumers and a bumper prize of Rs. 10 lakhs.

To facilitate participation, the government has launched a dedicated website, prize.ird.gov.np, where eligible consumers can upload their purchase invoices.

Consumers who make cash payments for goods or services worth more than Rs. 100 within Nepal for personal use and obtain an original invoice are eligible to participate by registering their bills on the portal.

For purchases made through QR code payments, consumers are not required to upload invoices manually. According to the IRD, QR-based transactions are automatically integrated into the reward system. Consumers only need to keep a record of their digital payment transaction, as the transaction number itself serves as proof of eligibility.

Following the budget announcement, the Ministry of Finance approved the operational guidelines for the scheme in the final week of Asar.

As per the guidelines, the program also includes a daily cash prize of Rs. 100,000 (after applicable tax deductions) for one eligible consumer, in addition to the Rs. 1 million bumper prize awarded twice every month through the fortnightly draws.

The government believes the initiative will help improve tax compliance, discourage informal transactions, and promote a stronger culture of requesting and issuing invoices across Nepal.
