Home Ministry Forms Panel to Investigate Humla–Bajura Border Clash at Lampata
A committee formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate the border dispute at Lampata between Humla and Bajura districts, as well as the recent clash in the area, has arrived in Simkot on Sunday.
The team, led by Senior Superintendent of Police Bimal Raj Paudel, reached Simkot, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Khadka of the District Police Office, Humla.
The committee has been mandated to verify the facts surrounding the dispute and the incident and to submit its report to the Ministry. During its field visit in Humla, the team will interact with local residents of the border area, individuals involved in the incident, elected representatives, political party leaders, and civil society members from the adjoining regions.
Earlier, clashes between residents of Humla and Bajura occurred between May 16 and 18 over the disputed border, prompting the Ministry of Home Affairs to form an investigation committee.
The dispute reportedly began after the initiation of a project to construct a police beat at Lampata. The Sudurpashchim Provincial Government had allocated a budget of Rs 4 million for the project in the current fiscal year.
Four injured individuals from the clash were later evacuated by helicopter for treatment.
In addition, separate committees led by Deputy Director General of the Department of Survey Susheel Dangol and SSP Bimal Raj Paudel were formed on May 25 to further address and study the border issue.
