KATHMANDU, March 2:

Formation of a high-level monitoring mechanism is stressed for effective implementation of the projects with the national pride.

Necessity of such mechanism was realized after slow progress of the projects with national pride in the last two fiscal years due to lack of coordination among the ministries and other government bodies.

According to Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Bimalendra Nidhi, coordination among the government agencies was not effective as the concept that development works was the part of state was not established.

Likewise, he said issue of answerability should be considered as the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport was involved directly or indirectly in the construction works.

Of the 21 projects with national pride, the construction works of second international airport in Simara of Bara has not started so far while the progress of Kathmandu-Tarai Fast Track has not proceed more than the job of track opening by the Nepal Army.

The officials have been charged of compromising in quality of the Mid-Hill Highway due to lack of technical studies in many sections.

According to the Chief Secretary Leela Mani Paudyal, the directive issued from the Legislature-Parliament in relation to developing mechanism to resolve the problems seen in the development projects would be implemented in letter and spirit.

Land acquisition, compensation and carelessness of the contractors among others are blamed for delayed progress in the projects. RSS
