HAN gives Rs 1.5m to PM Disaster Relief Fund
KATHMANDU, May 18:
Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), the apex body of hotels in Nepal, has provided Rs 1.51 million to the Prime Minister disaster Relief Fund. According to a statement issued by the association, HAN President BK Shrestha handed over the check to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala. HAN has also distributed tarpaulins, food and medicines worth Rs 2 million to 600 families in Bhaktapur and Kavre disricts. The association has also said its member hotels will provide rooms worth Rs 2 million to foreign experts and technicians, who visit Nepal to support the government for relief works, free of cost.
Subisu donates Rs 2m for relief and rehabilitation

Subisu Cablenet – a television, Internet and network service provider -- has donated Rs 2 million to PM Disaster Relief Fund for relief and rehabilitation of earthquake victims. According to a press statement issued on Monday, Sudhir Parajuli, president of Subisu Cablenet and Binaya Mohan Saud, CEO of Subisu Cablenet, jointly handed over the check for the amount to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala. The company has also been providing free data service since the earthquake of April 25 to various affected areas through Emergency Telecommunication Cluster (ETC) for keeping the vital communication service up and running, the statement added.
Hotel Annapurna declared safe
KATHMANDU:
Government agencies have declared Hotel Annapurna in Durbar Marg completely safe. According to a statement issued by the hotel, the hotel was declared safe after a joint assessment conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Department of Tourism and National Society for Earthquake Technology – Nepal (NSET) as well as Global Risk, Miyamoto -- the global earthquake and structural engineering firm. "We have resumed regular operation. We look forward to building alliances with great economic and social viability in the near future," the statement added.
Hyundai gives $300,000 for relief of quake victims
KATHMANDU:
Hyundai Motor Company Korea has provided support of $300,000 for relief of earthquake victims in Nepal. Officials of the company handed over the support to Nepal Red Cross Society that has been working for rehabilitation of the victims since the day of the disaster. "Hyundai has been contributing to the world where it needs support and will continue doing so as a part of its global CSR program," Sang Min Park, director/head of Asia and Pacific Regional Headquarter of Hyundai, said at a program organized to handover the support. Similarly, Ganesh Bahadur Shrestha, chairman of Laxmi Group -- the authorized distributor of Hyundai vehicles for Nepal -- thanked Hyundai for their support and solidarity showed by the company. "We have reacted immediately after the earthquake and have been providing relief materials to the victim from the third day of the earthquake," Shrestha said, adding, "We have covered many quake-hit areas where we have been providing provided food, tent and other relief materials. We have reached over 1,500 families in different affected areas with relief supplies so far."
NNMC supporting earthquake victims
KATHMANDU:
Nepal National Marwadi Council has been actively involved in providing relief materials for earthquake victims since the earthquakes of April 25. According to a press statement, women and children of Marwadi community have been packing daily use products (for relief) and distributing them at Tirupati Venkateswar Temple, Gaushala among other places. Pawan Mittal, president of Shree Tirupati Temple Management Committee, said the community has been able to meet their social responsibility through their attempts. He also requested all Nepalis to make their own attempts for relief as the country is going through trying times. "This is the time to heal and rebuild," he said, adding, "Everyone should make their efforts, no matter how small, to rebuild the nation."
HPL provides relief package worth Rs 9.3m
KATHMANDU:
Himal Power Limited (HPL) on Monday decided to provide relief package worth Rs 9.3 million to earthquake victims. According to a company statement, relief material worth Rs. 1.05 million will be distributed through District Relief Fund of Dolakha and Ramechhap districts and Rs 655,000 each through 11 VDCs of the two districts. The company has prioritized supply of tarpaulins, blankets, food materials and medicines to the earthquake victims, according to the statement. The company also said its Khimti Hydropower Project has not suffered any physical damage and is operating to its full capacity.
Western Union giving $200,000
KATHMANDU:
Western Union Foundation on Monday announced support of US$ 200,000 for quake-hit people of Nepal. Issuing a press release, Western Union said that money transfer facility without any fee to Nepal has been extended till the end of May. The company also has announced a multi-faceted response that leverages its broad connectivity, retail, online, agents and people to provide support for families and communities most affected by the earthquake in Nepal, the release added. "Consumers, who use Western Union online services and mobile applications to send money, can also avail of no-fee transactions to Nepal until May 31," the company said in the release.
