The government is releasing the mid-year review of the current fiscal year’s (2082/83) budget. According to the Ministry of Finance, the release will take place at a press conference at 1 PM today. The review evaluates the status of budget implementation, revenue collection, and expenditure.

Although the report should be published by the end of Magh every year in accordance with the Economic Procedures and Financial Responsibility Act, 2076, there was a delay due to various reasons, said the Ministry.

Reduction in a certain portion of the budget will likely take place through the revision following the Gen-Z revolution on September 8 and 9, 2025. Resultantly, some financial burdens were added. The government also announced the early elections on March 5, for which an additional budget must be allocated.

The government has expected expenditure of Rs 31 billion for the polls. The government reduced the budget size by freezing Rs 120 billion rupees for the reconstruction of government structures destroyed during the Gen-Z movement.

The then Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel had introduced a budget of 16 Kharba 64 Arba 11 Crore for the current FY. Over a decade, the estimated budget size has been consistently revised downwards.

Out of the allocated budget, the current expenditures account for 60.1 percent so far (11 Kharba, 80 Arba 98 Crore) while the capital expenditures stand for only 20.8 percent (4 Kharba 7 Arba 89 Crore).
