Owing to an increase in mobile phone theft caused by the import prohibition policy, the government is stated to allow for the import of mobile phones.

Due to the strain on foreign exchange reserves, the government had prohibited the import of 10 commodities since Baishakh 10. Tomorrow, Bhadra 14, the four-month ban will come to an end. However, as per the reports, the ban has been uplifted only on the import of mobile phones and alcohol as the sale of the same has increased dramatically through smuggling.

Deepak Malhotra, the president of the Mobile Importers Association, stated that the government is prepared to permit the import of mobile phones costing more than $300.

Similarly, the auto industry executives who had hoped the import ban would be repealed in time for Dashain festivals would be let down as the ban on automobile imports is stated to continue until further notice. Since Baishakh, numerous automakers' showrooms have been closed as a result of the import prohibition.

No motorcycles larger than 150 ccs are now permitted to enter Nepal, and only electric vehicles are imported in passenger vehicles.
