Government to Present Electricity Trade Bill to Parliament

The government has made the decision to submit the electricity trade bill to the Federal Parliament, as announced by Communication and Information Technology Minister Rekha Sharma. This decision was reached during a Council of Ministers meeting held at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday.
The bill in question is related to the business of electricity and is a result of the electricity trade agreement signed between Nepal and India in 2014. During Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's 'Prachanda' visit to India from May 31 to June 03, discussions took place regarding the transfer of Nepal's electricity to Bangladesh.
In a joint press conference with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Prachanda revealed that the Nepali side proposed the transfer of electricity to Bangladesh, and India responded positively to this proposal. They expressed their intention to sign a trilateral agreement soon.
Following Prime Minister Prachanda's return from his visit to India, the Council of Ministers wasted no time and decided to introduce a new bill on electricity trade to the Parliament. This move signifies the government's proactive approach towards enhancing the electricity trade sector and exploring potential opportunities for cross-border energy cooperation.
