The government has allocated Rs 250 million for the development of Tarigaun Airport in the upcoming fiscal year, aiming to upgrade infrastructure and expand flight operations.

The budget has been included in the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation's annual allocation. According to Kamal Subedi, the funds will be used for land management and infrastructure development to extend the airport’s runway to 2,500 meters under the government’s multi-year development plan.

Subedi said the airport could not be expanded in the past due to insufficient budget allocation. Currently, the airport has a runway of only 750 meters, allowing operations of only 19-seater Twin Otter aircraft, with flights remaining irregular.

Efforts to expand the runway have been repeatedly raised in the past to accommodate larger aircraft and ensure regular air connectivity. Due to limited operations at Tarigaun Airport, passengers from Dang and nearby districts currently rely on airports in Nepalgunj and Bhairahawa for air travel.
