Go Digital for Electricity Bills, Urges Energy Minister Shrestha
Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Viraj Bhakta Shrestha has urged citizens to switch to online digital platforms for paying their electricity bills. Currently, around 73 percent of consumers still visit payment counters in person, despite digital options being available.
Maintaining the Nepal Electricity Authority's 655 physical counters across 129 distribution sub branches costs nearly 597.9 million Nepalese rupees annually or roughly 50 million rupees every month. Minister Shrestha highlighted that adopting digital payments will save citizens time and travel costs, boost financial transparency, and allow staff and resources to be redirected toward better customer service.
To help drive this change, the Minister asked people to assist family members, neighbors, and elderly relatives who may not know how to use digital payment systems, emphasizing that this shift makes public services more convenient and efficient for everyone.
