Gham Power Unveils Nepal's First Soluble Lead-Flow Battery, Turning Recycled Lead into Clean Energy Storage
Gham Power Nepal showcased the country's first Soluble Lead-Flow Battery (SLFB) at a press event in Kathmandu on September 4, with University of Southampton professor Richard Wills leading a live demonstration of the technology.
The battery uses lead recovered from used lead-acid batteries as its core storage material, offering a way to store electricity generated from solar and hydropower.
Wills walked journalists and energy professionals through the charging and discharging process and how the lead is sourced and repurposed, positioning the technology as a potential fit for renewable-energy integration and longer-duration storage as Nepal's clean energy capacity expands.
The SLFB is being developed through a partnership between Gham Power, the University of Southampton, SOLead Energy and Swanbarton.
Gham Power, founded in 2010, has completed more than 4,000 solar projects and installed 18 MW of capacity across Nepal to date.
