Ganesh Nepali, Man Who Attempted Self Immolation in Kathmandu, Passes Away

Ganesh Nepali, a 25 year old ride share driver who attempted self immolation in Tirpureshwor Kathmandu, near passport department, has passed away while undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital.

The tragedy unfolded on Thursday afternoon outside the Department of Passports in Tripureshwar. Nepali, a resident of Soru Rural Municipality-1 in Mugu. The city police clamped a wheel lock on his motorcycle over an alleged parking violation. In a moment of extreme distress, Nepali siphoned petrol from his fuel tank, poured it over himself, and set himself on fire.

Though nearby police personnel acted quickly to put out the flames and rushed him to Bir Hospital, doctors stated that Nepali had sustained deep burns covering 55% to 60% of his body. The fire severely damaged his face, head, neck, chest, and arms, while also heavily compromising his respiratory tract.
