The Gandaki Province Government has unveiled its policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84, prioritizing agriculture and tourism for sustainable economic growth.

Province Chief Dilli Raj Bhatta presented the policies and programmes during a meeting of the Gandaki Province Assembly on Tuesday.

The new policies are guided by the long-term vision, “Self-Reliant and Prosperous Province: Happy Gandaki Folks.” The government has placed special emphasis on agricultural modernization, mechanization, diversification, and commercialization.

According to the policies, the province government will launch a “Return to Village” campaign by providing interest-free subsidized loans to individuals interested in commercial farming and agro-based industries.

The document also stresses making agricultural insurance programmes more effective. Programmes related to land plotting, potato and spring paddy promotion, and corridor-targeted agricultural development will be continued in the next fiscal year.

In the tourism sector, the government has announced plans to implement an integrated tourism development concept in Pokhara. A religious tourism circuit will also be developed by connecting major religious destinations, including Damodar Kunda, Muktinath, Galeshwor, Panchakot, Devghat and Tribenidham.

The policies further mention that programmes titled “First at Home and Then Abroad” and “Lake to Lake” will be launched to promote domestic tourism.

The province government has also set a target to double the number of tourists visiting from India and China within the next five years.
