The government has officially formed a high level committee to investigate allegations and public concerns regarding former Home Minister Sudan Gurung. This decision was made during a yesterday’s Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Balen Shah. The investigation will focus on issues that arose both during Gurung's time in office and after he stepped down. Gurung, who is also a current member of the House of Representatives, resigned from his ministerial post following various public accusations.

The investigation committee is led by Achyut Prasad Bhandari, a former judge of the High Court. He is joined by two other senior officials: Shobha Kanta Poudel, the Financial Comptroller General, and Achyut Mani Neupane, a Joint Attorney. The government has given this three member team a strict deadline of 15 days to complete their study and submit a detailed report. This report is expected to include specific facts, findings, and recommendations for further action.

This move comes after significant pressure from the public and opposition parties, who called for a transparent inquiry into Gurung’s conduct. One of the main issues involves allegations that he failed to disclose certain financial assets, specifically shares worth 2.5 million rupees a claim Gurung has publicly denied. By forming this independent panel, the government aims to address these concerns and ensure accountability within the leadership.
