Foreign Ministers of Nepal and Sri Lanka Discuss Expanding Bilateral Ties

Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal held a bilateral meeting with Sri Lankan Minister for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Wijitha Herath in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Minister Khanal’s secretariat, the two ministers discussed ways to further strengthen Nepal-Sri Lanka bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Khanal expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Sri Lanka for their sympathy and solidarity with communities affected by recent disasters in Nepal, as well as for providing economic and humanitarian assistance.

The two sides exchanged views on various aspects of the friendly relations and cooperation between Nepal and Sri Lanka.

They also emphasized the importance of convening meetings of existing bilateral mechanisms and agreed to further enhance cooperation in trade, tourism, education, culture, networking and people-to-people relations.
