Foreign Minister Khanal to Visit China Soon, MoFA Finalizing Schedule
Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal is set to pay an official visit to China in the near future, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) confirming that internal preparations for the visit are currently underway.
According to the Ministry, the detailed itinerary and schedule of the visit will be announced soon. The upcoming China visit follows Minister Khanal’s recent three-day official trip to India.
Speaking during a media interaction organized by the Ministry on Wednesday, Minister Khanal emphasized the need for a unified national approach on matters of foreign policy and national interest. He stressed that the government, political parties, state institutions, and the media should maintain common understanding and coordination on issues concerning the country's sovereignty and international relations.
The Foreign Minister also called for greater sensitivity and responsibility in the dissemination of information related to foreign affairs, noting that such matters require careful handling due to their diplomatic implications.
Outlining the Ministry’s priorities and reform agenda, Minister Khanal said efforts are underway to strengthen Nepal’s diplomatic presence abroad by upgrading human resources and physical infrastructure at Nepali missions and embassies based on necessity and demand.
He further shared plans to enhance the capacity of the Institute of Foreign Affairs, introduce the Lumbini Fellowship Program, organize a geostrategic conference, and address challenges related to passport biometric services.
Reflecting on his recent India visit, Minister Khanal described the trip as productive and meaningful. He stated that he held open, cordial, and constructive discussions with his Indian counterpart on a range of bilateral issues and matters of mutual interest, contributing to stronger Nepal-India relations.
Also addressing the event, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai said the Ministry is working in line with the government's commitment to promoting economic prosperity, effective diplomacy, and good governance.
The Ministry expects the upcoming China visit to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and deepen diplomatic engagement between Nepal and China across various sectors.
