Finance Minister Administers Oath to Newly Appointed SEBON Chairperson

Finance Minister, Dr. Swarnim Wagle, gave the oath of office and secrecy to Dr. Gopal Prasad Bhatta, newly appointed chairperson of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Finance on Monday.

After the prolonged vacany in the capital's market regulator, Dr. Bhatta was appointed to the post by the Cabinet on Ashad 05, 2083.  Addressing the ceremony, Finance Minister Wagle emphasize that the new SEBON chairperson must work with honesty and integrity to protect investor's interest and strengthen confidence in Nepal's share market. He urged Dr. Bhatta to remain free from any form of pressure, influence or inducement while carrying out his reponsibilities.

The minister also instructed the new chairperson to prepare a clear road map outlining reform to be implemented on a daily, weekly, monthly six month and annual basis. He stressed that effective capital mobilization through a well functioning securities market is essential for supporting economic growth

Highlighting concerns over market speculation, Wagle said unnecessary rumors have created fear among retail investors and directed SEBON to take measures to curb misinformation and enhance transparency in the market. Speaking after taking the oath, Dr. Bhatta expressed his commitment to implementing the government's capital market reform agenda and said he would work with sincerity to promote the development, stability, and credibility of Nepal's securities market.
