Exports from Birgunj Border Surge in the First Quarter of Current Fiscal Year
Exports from the Birgunj border checkpoint have seen a remarkable rise in the first three months of the current fiscal year compared to the same period last year, according to the Customs Office.
Chief Customs Administrator Bishnu Prasad Gyawali reported that goods worth Rs 26.59 billion were exported during the first quarter of the current fiscal year. This marks a significant increase from Rs 8.84 billion recorded in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
Among the major export commodities, refined soybean oil led the list, with 67.13 billion liters exported, amounting to Rs 13.98 billion in value. Likewise, juice exports totaled 21.148 billion liters, valued at Rs 2.7 billion.
Other key export items included refined sunflower oil (36.848 billion liters worth Rs 1.7 billion), garments (24.95 billion pieces worth Rs 970 million), and synthetic yarn valued at Rs 660 million.
Officials attribute the sharp rise in exports to improved border operations, favorable trade policies, and steady demand from international markets. The increase underscores Birgunj’s growing role as Nepal’s primary trade gateway, contributing significantly to the country’s overall export performance.
