The Election Commission (EC) has directed banking and financial institutions to keep some of their branches open during the public holidays announced for the House of Representatives election.

The government has declared public holidays from March 4 to 6 to facilitate voter participation in the March 5 elections. However, considering the need for uninterrupted financial transactions and essential services during the election period, the Election Commission has requested banks and financial institutions to operate selected branches on these days.

According to the EC, the decision aims to ensure smooth financial operations related to the election process and other urgent transactions. The commission has emphasized the importance of maintaining essential banking services, particularly for revenue collection and financial clearances.

In this regard, the EC has also requested the Office of the Comptroller General to make necessary arrangements to facilitate revenue submission, which is a crucial aspect of financial accountability during the election period.

The move is expected to help maintain financial stability and ensure that critical fiscal responsibilities are fulfilled despite the nationwide public holidays.
