Chief executive officers (CEOs) of commercial banks in Nepal can now become eligible to serve as the governor of the central bank, provided they complete a mandatory two year waiting period after stepping down from their bank positions.

The House of Representatives' Finance Committee decided to include this new provision while reviewing amendments to the Nepal Rastra Bank Act. Under the proposed rule, former bank CEOs and individuals with executive experience in financial institutions can be considered for the governor's role. Candidates must hold a master's degree and have at least 10 years of relevant work experience in the field to qualify.
