Cabinet Approves UNEP Agreement, AIG Promotion, Key Appointments, and Extends Probe Study Committee Term

The Council of Ministers, which met on Tuesday, has taken four key decisions.

The meeting approved an agreement related to the implementation of the Montreal Protocol on managing and reducing substances that harm the ozone layer. The agreement will be carried out under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

In another decision, on the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Anjani Kumar Pokhrel, who was serving as a Deputy Inspector General in the Armed Police Force, has been promoted to the post of Additional Inspector General (AIG).

Similarly, the Cabinet has made appointments to the Land Problem Resolution Committee. Balbhadra Bastola from Kaski has been appointed as the Chairperson of the committee. Other appointed members include Amir Prasad Neupane from Kathmandu, Padmaniti Soti from Lamjung, and Dr. Rona Shrestha from Kathmandu.

The meeting has also extended the term of a study committee formed to review the report of an investigation commission regarding incidents that took place during the protests on Bhadra 23 and 24, 2082 BS. The committee’s working period has been extended by 45 days to further study and make recommendations regarding the security agencies mentioned in the report.
