Birgunj Customs Revenue Hits Rs. 17,766 Crore as Chaitra Imports Surge by 27.94%
The Birgunj Customs Office has recorded a significant surge in financial activity for the month of Chaitra in the current fiscal year (82/83) compared to the same period last year. During Chaitra, revenue collection reached Rs. 2,282 crore, a substantial increase from the Rs. 1,998 crore collected in the previous year, achieving 95% of its monthly target. This growth is mirrored in trade volumes, where imports for Chaitra spiked by 27.94% to reach Rs. 9,859 crore, while exports saw a modest rise to Rs. 1,306 crore compared to last year's Rs. 1,281 crore.
Looking at the total cumulative data for both fiscal years, the office has demonstrated strong overall performance in revenue and imports, despite a dip in total exports. Total revenue collection for the period rose to Rs. 17,766 crore, marking a 10% increase (an additional Rs. 1,620 crore) over the previous year's Rs. 16,146 crore. Total imports grew by 13.11%, climbing from Rs. 61,361 crore to Rs. 69,405 crore. Additionally, total exports faced a upward trend, Increasing from Rs. 7,935 crore in the previous fiscal year to Rs. 7,954 crore in the current period, This increase is 14.73 % compare to the previous F.Y. 81/82, highlighting a widening trade gap despite the robust revenue and import growth.
