In a significant stride toward child friendly local governance, the Ward No. 8 office of Bhirkot Municipality in Syangja has launched a program to provide free health insurance to 600 students across 11 public schools. Under this new initiative, students from nursery to the 10th grade are eligible for medical coverage of up to Rs 100,000. Ward Chairperson Nanda Lal Khanal confirmed that the scheme is designed to be inclusive, ensuring that any student residing within the ward whether they attend a public or private institution receives the benefit based on their birth registration.

The insurance policy is structured to offer flexible medical access, allowing students to receive treatment at hospitals where the national health insurance is applicable. For those seeking care at other facilities, the ward has committed to making payments based on the submission of valid treatment receipts. This health initiative is part of a broader social welfare strategy by the ward office, which also includes a program to encourage timely birth registration by depositing Rs 5,000 into a new account for every child born in the ward. Through these combined efforts, the local government aims to secure both the health and legal identity of its youngest citizens.
