Bhaktapur trade fair begins

Bhaktapur Industrial and Commercial Fair 2015 has been inaugurated in Sallaghari on the occasion of Nepali New Year beginning next week and the accompanying Bisket Jatra.

The fair , inaugurated Friday by Industry Minister Mahesh Basnet, features 210 stalls of readymade clothing, shoes, electronic gadgets, tea leaves, jewellery, agricultural products and equipment, among others. Discounts between 30 to 50 percent have been offer on the products during the event jointly organised by Audyogik Shanti Nepal Sanstha and Madhyapur Boys Band. It will run till April 20.

Apart from the products on sale, the fair hosts various exciting activities that would amuse the visitors, including a concert by top artists on each day of the fair . The organisers expect an estimated 200,000 people to visit the fair . “The fair will come as a blessing for traders,” said Pawan Agrawal, a coordinator of the fair . “We are aiming for doing business upward of Rs 100 million.”

The organisers have assured complete safety of visitors to the fair . “We have installed CCTV cameras all over the venue and hired security guards and emergency units to avert any mishap,” Agrawal said.

The fair is expected to showcase commercial potential of the district to businesspeople. Such fair s, more common and popular in western districts of the country, have the ability to attract a large number of visitors and provide business opportunities to local traders.
