The Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal has strengthened security measures at customs points, including the Kakadbhitta Customs Point in Jhapa district, in an effort to control revenue leakage and curb tax evasion.

The move comes amid concerns over declining local business activity in border towns, reportedly due to a large number of Nepali citizens purchasing essential goods from markets across the Indian border, leading to significant revenue losses for the country.

Security has been tightened following complaints of rising informal trade and customs evasion. The APF has urged residents in border areas such as Mechinagar, Bhadrapur, Gaurigunj, and Kachankawal to ensure proper payment of applicable taxes when importing goods worth more than Rs 100.

According to Information Officer Madan Rasaili of Armed Police Force Nepal No. 2 Battalion Headquarters, individuals involved in tax evasion will face legal action as per existing laws. He said the campaign has been launched under directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs to reduce illegal imports and strengthen border regulation.

The APF has been conducting similar operations across customs points nationwide as part of its broader effort to prevent smuggling and ensure proper revenue collection.
