70-MW Madhya Marsyangdi, 50-MW Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ Resume Power Generation

Two major hydropower projects in Lamjung district, which were shut down following a rise in the water level and flow of the Marsyangdi River, have resumed operations.

The 70-MW Madhya Marsyangdi Hydropower Project and 50-MW Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ Hydropower Project resumed power generation on Monday after being closed since Sunday morning as a precautionary measure.

The Madhya Marsyangdi Hydropower Project was completely shut down on Sunday morning after the rising water level and increased flow in the Marsyangdi River posed a potential risk to the project.

Project Chief Tara Dutta Bhattarai said power generation was halted and water from the project was completely discharged into the river as a safety measure. Generation resumed from Monday afternoon after the river’s water level and flow returned to normal.

Similarly, the 50-MW Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ Hydropower Project, located in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-8, resumed power generation on Monday morning.

Project Engineer Karna Adhikari said generation restarted after the project completed necessary technical works, cleaning and other management measures following the temporary shutdown.

Both projects have now returned to operation following improvement in the river conditions.
