677 Workers Missing, 515 Trucks and Containers Lost in Bhotekoshi Flood

As many as 677 workers have gone missing and 515 trucks and containers have been reported lost following the Bhotekoshi River flood in Rasuwa on Bhadra 10.

The figures were presented by the Federation of Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs at a meeting led by Rajiv Pokharel, Director General of the Department of Transport Management. The federation said the number of missing workers and vehicles could increase as further details are collected.

Federation President Rajendra Bikram Baniya called for a detailed assessment of the losses in the transport and cargo sector and relief and compensation for affected workers and transport entrepreneurs.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development has formed a committee under Pokharel to assess the human and physical damage caused by the flood and recommend a basis for compensation. The committee has been given 15 days to submit its report to the minister.

The committee includes representatives from the ministry, the minister’s secretariat, transport entrepreneurs and transport workers’ organizations, along with representatives of the federation.
