53 Killed, Dozens Injured in Last Week’s Rain-Induced Disasters Across Nepal

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has confirmed that 53 people have lost their lives in the rain-induced disasters that struck various parts of the country last week.
According to NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat, 40 people were killed in landslides, 11 in floods, and two by lightning strikes. Ilam district suffered the highest casualties, with 38 deaths from landslides, while Panchthar and Kavre each reported one fatality.
Flood-related deaths were recorded in several districts — two each in Udayapur and Dhanusha, and one each in Ilam, Panchthar, Khotang, Bhojpur, Morang, Sunsari, and Rautahat.
The authority reported that four individuals in Rasuwa and one in Ilam remain missing, while 47 others have sustained injuries.
Spokesperson Mahat informed that discussions are underway to provide temporary housing, rehabilitation, and relief assistance to the affected families.
