218 Applicants Compete to Lead 8 Major Universities

A total of 218 candidates have applied to lead eight of the country's major universities. A government committee has now started reviewing their applications to fill the vacant Vice Chancellor positions.

The Ministry of Education and Sports had opened the application window on May 8, giving interested individuals 10 days to apply.

According to government data, Tribhuvan University received the highest interest with 50 applicants. Meanwhile, 38 people applied to lead Purbanchal University, and another 38 applied for Pokhara University.

For the remaining institutions, the applicant numbers are as follows:

  • Rajarshi Janak University: 27 applicants
  • Mid-West University: 20 applicants
  • Far-Western University: 19 applicants
  • Agriculture and Forestry University: 15 applicants
  • Lumbini Buddhist University: 11 applicants

The review committee is currently checking all submitted documents and will soon publish a list of approved candidates who will move on to the next stage of the selection process.

The committee responsible for choosing the new university leaders includes Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel, Education Secretary Chudamani Paudel, and a rotating group of university experts.
